The new generation nowadays doesn’t know that before modern technology took over, the economy and all the society revolved around horses. One historian would even comment that “every family in the United States in 1870 was directly dependent on the horse.
In the rural areas of America, farmers increased in no small measure by growing hay to maintain the nation’s 8.6 million horses or one horse for every five people. For the people who are born in these last decades, it is difficult to demonstrate that such a large part of the American economy and its jobs revolved around horses.
But as soon as modern technology took place a lot of things changed and working horses weren’t as vital as they were before. Nowadays it’s not that common to see working horses plowing the fields or pulling logs, that’s why it’s a beautiful thing to see the draft horses plowing a field together with their owners.
We are so happy that this amazing tradition continues in the modern farms and the new generation can also witness the importance of the horses and what an incredible feeling it is to work with them.
